Saying Goodbye

This weekend was a good balance of work and play. My fiance and I accomplished a lot of cleaning and packing, and we even sold my dresser! Yay!

Yesterday, I met up with my friend Erin and we had a lovely walk and catch up fest. At the end of the walk, we both realized we should’ve been meeting up for walks LONG before now. Sigh. After we parted ways, the fiance and I went for a long bike ride around South Beach, stopping to take some photos along the way. Miami is truly beautiful, and I will definitely miss the beach, the palm trees, and the weather!

We have a lot more packing and cleaning to do (and hopefully selling more furniture) over the next week, as well as stuffing invite envelopes, but I also plan to squeeze in some workouts, bike rides, and get togethers with friends. It can’t be all work and no play, right?

Critical Mass Miami

My friend invited me at the last minute to ride with her in the Miami Critical Mass event. Miami Critical Mass is an event held on the last Friday of every month where bicyclists and, less frequently, skateboarders, inline skaters, roller skaters and other self-propelled commuters take to the streets en masse.

The website says Miami Critical Mass is “a ride that celebrates bicycles, encourages cycling & reminds drivers that they must share the road…” “This is supposed to be a fun ride, you’re encouraged to smile, wave at passersby, ring your bells & have a good time.”

Sounds awesome, right?

Last night my friend and I biked about 20 miles through the streets of Miami, discovering areas we had never before seen or been! I’m terrible at estimating the number of people in attendance, but my guess is there was anywhere between 5,000 people and 10,000 people. I truly felt like I was a part of the Miami community, something that I’ve been trying to achieve since I moved to Miami almost 3 years ago.

During the ride, we jammed out to music that various bikers were blasting, got caught in a mini rainstorm, waved and yelled to passerby, and laughed a lot. I had so much fun last night and I’m proud of my cruiser for making it the whole way!

Although I am sad to be moving before the next Miami Critical Mass event, I am excited I’ll be able to ride with the Critical Mass D.C. crew!
Have a great day!
